Fast-Paced Micro-Betting: Stranomitis shares insights at SiGMA Europe

Dinos Stranomitis, Co-Founder and COO of Altenar presented a compelling keynote speech at SiGMA Europe 2024 on 14 November in Malta, exploring the intersection of human psychology and sports micro-betting.

Stranomitis started the discussion by talking about the fast pace at which the brain processes entertainment and action. He highlighted the importance of providers delivering essential information, results, and customer experiences within two seconds. He emphasised that anything longer than this could jeopardise the betting experience, as much can happen in just five seconds in the stadium.

He advised that a grace period of three seconds is the maximum customers should have to wait for results in sports betting. Stranomitis connected human psychology to sports betting, explaining that gambling satisfies a human need for instant gratification. He argued that sports betting enhances happiness by providing something exciting to anticipate at the end of each game, viewing sports betting as a source of entertainment rather than addiction.

According to Stranomitis, the most important point of betting is the consumer’s emotional experience, as this drives the industry forward. He noted that if people become bored with a game—live or virtual—sports betting can invigorate the experience, making it more exciting and entertaining.

He further emphasised that micro-betting leverages technology to deliver information to customers in the shortest time possible. He believes the industry must continue prioritising this efficiency to attract new sports betting consumers in the future.

As Stranomitis concluded his speech, he took a question from the audience regarding the effects of fast information flow on data margins. He confidently stated that there should be no negative impact if the provider has sufficient information, understands the game’s value, and knows how it operates. He expressed optimism that technology will evolve, ensuring that margins remain relatively stable as data acquisition methods adapt to any changes.

Stranomitis’ keynote, supported by Gaming Malta, was the opening speech of Day 3 at SiGMA Europe. The conference will feature many more thought-provoking speeches and panels, which can be explored in the agenda.
